TANYA BARLOW || HAIR/MAKE UP/NAIL ARTIST

Hello.

Hello!

I don't really enjoy writing about myself in the third person, so I won't! The last version of this “About Me” section was embarrassingly outdated, so I thought I better bring things up to date.

My name is Tanya. I have lived in a handful of countries, and New Zealand is definitely my favourite. I grew up in Hong Kong, my mother is Singaporean, my father a New Zealander, and I have somehow ended up with an American accent.

I did my Hair and Make Up training in 2008-2009 at Greasepaint in London, following a BA(Hons) in Screen and Media, and two years as a video editor. It was the best decision I ever made! I spent an incredible two years gaining experience on short films, designed my first feature film, and had the pleasure of working on the West End.

Moving back to Auckland, NZ in 2010 was a little nerve-wracking, but starting again always is! After a slow start, I eventually met some fantastic people whilst acting as Key Make Up Artist on an Escalator funded feature film, “Timeslow”, and things took off from there! From short films (“The Keeper”, “Mad Pearse”), international TVCs (Miller Beer, Armani), editorials (Mindfood magazine, Black magazine) and numerous fantastic music videos. There are so many facets of this job that makes me love it- that every brief is different, that crew members might be the best people I've ever met, and not to mention making clients feel and look amazing- or not!

At the end of 2012 I decided to add another string to the old bow and train as a nail technician after a long love-affair with nail art, and now have a home salon. I've since enjoyed acting as a session nail artist for Black magazine, Look Books and creative collaborations, and had the fantastic opportunity to act as Manicurist on the latest Giorgio Armani: Acqua Di Gioia Perfume Campaign in 2013.

Nothing excites me more than collaborating with passionate and creative people, so please get in touch if you'd like to make something together! :)

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Tanya B. x
